Accidentals v Richmond Redoubtables
By David George
Richmond’s lowliest team play with a certain rustic charm of older fellers still adjusting to playing on Astro and younger ones without, yet, much guile. But fair play to them, they put out a squad each week, seem to enjoy themselves and get a decent thumping. But not against us, this week.
We had most of the play but only just snuck over the line as we hammered away beyond their congested 23m line. We played better last week and won ugly this week. Hey ho.
In fact, we went down against their first attack. We were playing an old school 2-3-5 formation in the hunt for muchas goalas but that left us a little exposed at the back, especially so in the absence of defensive rocks JPep and Rod. A fine strike from the top of the D.
But we banged away at their goal and yielded results: a smart short corner saw DG chip in from close and a second half short saw a penalty awarded. Doc put it away.
Adam should’ve scored after his own father did so much hard work (his mum was umpiring, it is a family affair in the Accidentals!). Miguel was sound at right back, Lucas continues to improve, Will is stronger, Milo continues to dazzle on the left, often one handed lifting the ball. A quieter game by Arthur in the middle.
Some tougher games up coming.
